Xavi Simons Poised to Leave PSG Without Playing a Match

Recruited by Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023, Xavi Simons faces the possibility of leaving the club without ever having donned the iconic PSG jersey. This scenario is reportedly being considered by RB Leipzig, where the 21-year-old winger is currently enjoying his second loan season across the Rhine.

Despite PSG’s hopes of integrating the talented Dutch international into their squad, the club was left with no option but to loan out Xavi Simons once again this summer. According to reports from le10sport.com on July 17, Simons was eager to spend another season away from the French capital, signaling a clear desire to further his development elsewhere.

Plans for Long-Term Retention

To facilitate this growth, Xavi Simons has returned on a one-year loan to RB Leipzig, where he had previously spent the last season. As the summer transfer window remains open, Oliver Mintzlaff, the general director of Red Bull GmbH, has already outlined his ambitions regarding the player to PSG’s management. “Our leadership needs to negotiate this with PSG. For now, he is on loan. But of course, our goal is to retain top players like him for the long term,” he stated.

Proving Their Competitive Edge

In an interview with Sky Deutschland, Mintzlaff expressed confidence in the club’s ability to secure Simons, who is contracted to PSG until June 2027. The recent contract extension of highly sought-after Benjamin Šeško further underscores Leipzig’s determination to resolve the situation concerning Simons. “We have now demonstrated that it is possible to retain our best players even amidst fierce competition. Šeško received substantial offers, including from the Premier League, but he chose to stay with us and even extended his contract,” he added. This gives PSG a full season to strategize for the upcoming negotiations.
