Willian Pacho: Ecuador’s Rising Star at PSG After 40M€ Transfer
This summer, Willian Pacho made headlines when he transferred to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) from Eintracht Frankfurt for €40 million. The move raised eyebrows across the football world, but the former Bundesliga defender is set to become a key player alongside Marquinhos this season at PSG. His rapid rise in the sport has not gone unnoticed, particularly in his home country of Ecuador.
Relatively unknown to many, Willian Pacho is now the first Ecuadorian to join PSG. Acquired for €40 million from Eintracht Frankfurt, this central defender is expected to play an influential role in Paris this season. José Alberto Molestina, a journalist for the media outlet DeUnaSF, revealed that this transfer even caught many by surprise back in Ecuador.
“What he is experiencing today is well-deserved”
According to Molestina, “Many talented players leave the country with very few first-team matches under their belt. He faced a failed transfer to the German league before making his way to Europe for the first time, which was a tough experience for him. What he is experiencing today is therefore doubly deserved,” he stated in an interview with Foot Mercato.
“His move to France’s premier team was a big surprise”
“The truth is, seeing him join the most important team in France was a major surprise. Many of us thought he would end up at a top German club like Dortmund or Bayern Munich, but this is fantastic news that opens doors for Ecuadorians in Ligue 1,” Molestina added.
