Victor Osimhen’s Transfer Dreams Dashed: Joins Galatasaray Instead
After finally being allowed to leave Napoli, Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has not signed with either PSG or Chelsea, the two clubs he had hoped to join. Although he was in advanced negotiations with Chelsea, time ran out before a deal could be finalized, leaving Osimhen disappointed. However, he found solace in a conversation with fellow Nigerian footballer John Obi Mikel.
Osimhen’s transition to Galatasaray
In a difficult situation with Napoli’s management, Victor Osimhen has made the move to Galatasaray. With the transfer window closing for the top five leagues and his name missing from the Serie A roster, he was left with little choice. Despite his aspirations to play for bigger clubs like PSG or Chelsea, his hopes were dashed when negotiations with Chelsea fell through due to the time constraints of the transfer window. This setback has understandably affected the morale of the Serie A’s top scorer for 2023.
A supportive voice in tough times
“He was disappointed that it didn’t happen. I spoke to him when the transfer window closed, we talked for 20 minutes. I told him, ‘Listen, I’m always here for you. You need to keep your head down, keep working hard, and continue training. I know this isn’t the best situation right now, but I know you’re strong,’” shared John Obi Mikel during an episode of The Obi One Podcast. This sentiment also reflects Mikel’s own disappointment at not seeing his compatriot join his beloved club.
The impact of a strong striker
“You know, Victor is a strong character, much like Didier Drogba and Diego Costa, and we lack that kind of presence at the club. We need strikers who have that sharpness, that bite, and can intimidate defenders. Victor definitely has that,” Mikel added, indicating the potential impact Osimhen could have had on the team.
