UEFA Appoints Anthony Taylor as Referee for PSG vs Sporting Lisbon Clash
This Sunday, just two days before the return of the Champions League, UEFA has appointed the referee for the match between Sporting Lisbon and Paris Saint-Germain.
The anticipation for the Champions League is beginning to fill the air across Europe. This week, after more than a month without the tournament, the most prestigious European competition makes its return for Matchday 7 of the group stage. Paris Saint-Germain will travel to Lisbon on Tuesday to face Sporting. Following a goalless draw against Bilbao in mid-December and a recent exit from the Coupe de France, the Parisians need to send a strong message as they return to the Champions League.
On Sunday, UEFA revealed the identity of the match referee. The Englishman Anthony Taylor has been appointed, with Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn serving as his assistants, while Robert Jones will take on the role of fourth official.
Anthony Taylor: A Familiar Face for PSG
For PSG, Taylor is a well-known figure, having officiated during their quarter-final match against Bayern Munich in the Club World Cup. In the Champions League, he has refereed eight matches involving PSG, achieving a record of five wins, one draw, and two losses. Notably, he did not officiate any of the matches for the Red and Blue last season.
