Sarkozy Returns: From Prison to the Stands at Parc des Princes

Paris, November 2025 – In a match that saw Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) triumph over Le Havre with a 3-0 victory, the spotlight wasn’t just on the players. The former French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, made an unexpected appearance, marking his first public outing since his release from prison on November 10th.

PSG’s commanding win in Ligue 1

The match, held during the thirteenth round of Ligue 1, was crucial for PSG. The victory allowed the team to reclaim the top spot in the championship, overtaking Olympique de Marseille. While the players celebrated on the field, the presence of Sarkozy in the stands added an extra layer of intrigue to the evening.

From prison to public view

Sarkozy, recently liberated by the Paris Court of Appeal, is under judicial supervision following his conviction for criminal association connected to the 2007 Libyan campaign financing scandal. The 70-year-old politician had been held at the Santé prison since late September.

As a long-time avid supporter of PSG, Sarkozy’s absence from matches during his incarceration was notable. He missed key games, including those against Strasbourg and Nice. Prior to his imprisonment, he had also opted out of attending major finals such as the Champions League and the Coupe de France.

Despite these absences, Sarkozy’s support for his beloved team never wavered. His entourage previously revealed that “He won’t be at Stade de France or Munich, but that won’t stop him from supporting PSG. He chose to watch those matches at home with his family in Paris.”
