Rabiot’s Transfer to OM Sparks Controversy Among PSG Legends

Adrien Rabiot’s recent signing with Olympique de Marseille (OM) has ignited outrage among supporters of his former club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), as well as some notable figures from the capital club. Former PSG defender Mamadou Sakho voiced his discontent regarding this transfer on Friday night, stating he would rather retire than follow in Rabiot’s footsteps.

After parting ways with Juventus, Adrien Rabiot found himself free of contract for an extended period before ultimately committing to OM. This move is seen as a betrayal by PSG fans, who are still grappling with his career decision. Sakho, a prominent figure at PSG, expressed that he felt a “sting in his heart” upon hearing the news.

In an interview on J-1 aired on Canal+ Sport Afrique on Friday evening, Sakho remarked, “Honestly, it did bother me. I know the football world and don’t know how he left PSG. Depending on his situation when he departed, feelings can vary. As a lifelong Parisian, a player who wears the PSG jersey should never don the Marseille shirt. I’m a true Parisian, and I would rather end my career than wear that of OM. This is just my personal opinion.” Sakho also lamented the fading intensity of the rivalry between OM and PSG.

The Diminishing Rivalry

Sakho continued, “I feel that rivalry is diminishing. In our time, a PSG-Marseille match was significant. Now, I feel the games are approached differently. There used to be palpable tension leading up to the match, a certain spice to it. Today, the Classico feels rather mild.
