Rabiot’s Surprising Move to OM: A Betrayal or a Fresh Start?
In a surprising turn of events this summer, Adrien Rabiot made the bold decision to join Olympique de Marseille (OM) after being a free agent. This move has sparked significant discussions, particularly in his former club’s home of Paris, where many have labeled it as a betrayal. However, Édouard Cissé, a former player for both clubs, offers a different perspective on Rabiot’s transition.
Having been developed at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Rabiot had previously stated that wearing the OM jersey was out of the question. Yet, just a few days ago, he broke that promise by signing a two-year contract with Marseille. This shift has undoubtedly raised eyebrows, leading to accusations of disloyalty from the PSG faithful. But is it truly betrayal on Rabiot’s part?
A different viewpoint on loyalty
In an interview with So Foot, Cissé shed light on Rabiot’s decision. As a former player for both PSG and OM, he believes that Rabiot’s situation is complicated due to the tumultuous end of his time at Paris: “Overall, things often end poorly at Paris, and given what happened with Adrien, there’s no reason for him to remain loyal to them,” he stated.

Freedom to choose his path
Discussing Rabiot’s choice to join OM, Cissé remarked, “Why did he sign with Marseille? He was free to go wherever he wanted. If he didn’t secure a spot with a more prestigious club, he likely thought, ‘I’ll go to Marseille; it’ll be enjoyable, I’ll get plenty of playing time, and I can make a comeback to the national team.’”
