Rabiot’s Controversial Move from PSG to OM Sparks Mixed Reactions
In a move that has stirred controversy among football fans, Adrien Rabiot, a product of the Parisian suburbs and former PSG star, is set to continue his career at Olympique de Marseille (OM). This transfer has not been well received by some supporters, who remain fiercely loyal to the historical rivalry between the two clubs. The signing has sparked debate, notably even beyond French borders, with reactions surfacing in Austria during a Vienna derby.
Adrien Rabiot now joins an exclusive group of players who have donned the jerseys of both PSG and OM throughout their careers. This list is quite limited, featuring names such as Fabrice Fiorèse and Frédéric Déhu. The French midfielder, raised in Paris, made his choice without concern for the longstanding rivalry with PSG.
Rabiot explains his decision
During his unveiling at OM, Adrien Rabiot expressed his excitement about this new chapter. “I’m very, very happy. Proud to be here. This is a club I chose with my heart. I hope everything goes well. It’s a great sporting choice. I was pleasantly surprised by the welcome I received. It’s wonderful to see the enthusiasm. I can only imagine it’s maybe 2 or 3% of what it will be like in the stadium, in the city. I’m really happy and can’t wait to start and experience the atmosphere in the stadium,” he shared with reporters.
Banner unfurls in Austria
While many fans at OM have embraced Rabiot, not everyone is on board. The midfielder’s arrival has ignited discussions, particularly in Austria. According to reports, a banner was displayed during the Vienna derby between Rapid and Austria. The banner read: “From PSG to OM, it’s a bad joke,” a clear jab at Rabiot’s controversial career move. The question arises—why the uproar in Austria? The only notable connection between PSG and Rapid Vienna dates back to the 1996 Cup Winners’ Cup final, which was triumphantly won by the team led by Luis Fernandez.
