Luis Enrique Blocks Star Striker Victor Osimhen’s Move to PSG Amid Attacking Woes
Paris, October 2023 – Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) continues its quest for the perfect attacking formula. Despite lingering doubts about the current offensive lineup, head coach Luis Enrique has decisively closed the door on signing one of Europe’s most formidable strikers.
PSG’s offensive challenges this season
The Parisian club’s attack has been under scrutiny this season. With Ousmane Dembélé struggling to regain his previous form in a central role and Gonçalo Ramos often limited to a substitute position, there is a noticeable lack of a reliable number 9. While bringing in a world-class forward seemed logical, Enrique has vetoed the idea, deeming the player’s style incompatible with his vision for the team, despite the evident gaps in the squad.
Victor Osimhen: the end of a long-standing rumor
The rejected striker is none other than Victor Osimhen. According to reports from Foot Mercato, the longstanding rumors linking the Nigerian international to PSG are now conclusively quashed. Enrique is not impressed by the “Super Eagle’s” profile and has shut down any potential reunion with Luis Campos, who previously signed Osimhen at Lille. Besides strategic reasons, the player’s hefty financial demands—20 million euros net per year and a near 150 million euro transfer fee—are considered prohibitive by PSG management.
Bayern Munich’s interest
While PSG has closed the book on Osimhen and the player has declined a move to Saudi Arabia, another European giant is eyeing him. Recent sources indicate that Bayern Munich is seriously considering the Nigerian striker to eventually replace Harry Kane. Bavarian coach Vincent Kompany has admired Osimhen since his impressive early days in Belgium. As the summer transfer window approaches, Osimhen’s next chapter seems unlikely to unfold in Paris.
