PSG’s Summer Pursuit of Cherki: A Miss Amid Young Talent Focus

This summer, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) expressed significant interest in acquiring Rayan Cherki, the talented midfielder from Olympique Lyonnais (OL). Despite being nudged toward the exit door by OL, Cherki ultimately decided to remain loyal to his formative club. Recently, Turkish giants Galatasaray also made a move to recruit the young Frenchman, but Cherki turned down their offer.

Once again, PSG focused its recruitment strategy on young French talent this summer, successfully securing the signing of Désiré Doué for approximately €60 million. This acquisition is a major achievement for the Parisian club, especially considering Doué, just 19 years old, was also on the radar of Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich.

PSG’s Pursuit of Cherki

In addition to bringing in Désiré Doué, PSG made a concerted effort to lure another promising French star, Rayan Cherki. According to exclusive reports, the capital club had reached a preliminary agreement with OL for the 21-year-old. However, the deal ultimately fell through, and Cherki opted to remain with Lyon.

Cherki Declines Galatasaray

Besides PSG, Borussia Dortmund also expressed interest in Rayan Cherki. As reported by Foot Mercato, a third club, Galatasaray, made an effort to secure the young midfielder, but he declined their offer. Currently, it seems that Cherki is leaning towards extending his contract with OL, as indicated by reports from L’Équipe.
