PSG’s Quiet Transfer Window: A Shift from Stars to Team Focus
The summer transfer window has officially closed, and the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) club had a surprisingly quiet period, despite initial expectations of a flurry of activity to compensate for the departure of Kylian Mbappé. Ultimately, only four new players have joined the roster, including João Neves and Désiré Doué, whose combined fees amount to a staggering €120M, including bonuses.
As PSG transitions into a new era, many anticipated a more dramatic overhaul. However, the club has adhered to its new philosophy, prioritizing a team-oriented approach over individual stardom. Consequently, no marquee signing has stepped in to fill the void left by Mbappé’s transfer to Real Madrid. But is this strategy truly the optimal route for the club?
A Player for Each Position at PSG
According to reports from Le Parisien, both Luis Enrique and Nasser Al-Khelaïfi had a clear vision for this summer’s transfer activity in the post-Mbappé landscape. Their plan involved securing one new player for each line of the team, which they successfully achieved. The new acquisitions include João Neves in midfield, Désiré Doué who can operate as a winger or support striker, Ecuadorian defender Willian Pacho, and goalkeeper Matvey Safonov.
No Striker Signing?
Despite the strategy, some analysts had expected PSG to go all out for a leading striker, particularly in light of Gonçalo Ramos‘s ankle injury. So far, neither he nor his teammate Randal Kolo Muani has demonstrated the prowess expected of a center-forward at one of Europe’s most ambitious clubs, such as PSG.
