PSG’s Pursuit of Kvaratskhelia Highlights Transfer Failures
PSG’s pursuit of Kvaratskhelia highlights transfer struggles
The potential interest of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in acquiring Khvicha Kvaratskhelia underscores the club’s recent difficulties in the transfer market. This move is seen by many as a concession that previous signings have not met expectations.
Challenges in retaining top talent
Antonio Conte had set clear conditions when he joined Napoli as their coach last summer, emphasizing the need to retain key players. While Victor Osimhen moved to Galatasaray, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia remained with the Italian champions of 2023.
However, the situation has shifted dramatically within six months. Kvaratskhelia has expressed his desire to leave the club, as confirmed by Conte. The question now is whether he can be persuaded to stay. Meanwhile, PSG is among the clubs eyeing the 23-year-old Georgian winger.
French talents underappreciated?
Over the past week, reports have emerged of interactions between PSG and Kvaratskhelia, who has been with Napoli since July 2022. This raises the question: Why pursue Kvaratskhelia when PSG already boasts strong offensive options? The answer may lie in a disappointing transfer window.
PSG appears dissatisfied with the performances of Bradley Barcola and Désiré Doué, two promising French players with a similar role to Kvaratskhelia. Additionally, Randal Kolo Muani has been sidelined for months by coach Luis Enrique.
Massive investment in attack
These instances reflect a failed strategy by PSG’s management. Since the summer transfer window of 2023, the club has heavily invested in offensive talents such as Dembélé, Kolo Muani, Barcola, Ramos, D. Doué, Asensio, and Lee, spending approximately 330 million euros. Yet, they still seem to be on the hunt for another attacker.
According to reports from RMC Sport, PSG is unwilling to meet Napoli’s asking price of around 80 million euros for Kvaratskhelia.
