PSG’s Luis Enrique to Rest Hakimi and Mendes Against Reims
As Achraf Hakimi (25) has been a key player for PSG, starting every match this season, manager Luis Enrique is reportedly considering a strategic decision ahead of the upcoming Ligue 1 fixture. For the match against Reims this Saturday evening, it seems that the coach plans to give his star right-back a much-needed rest.
During the last summer transfer window, PSG allowed Nordi Mukiele to join Bayer on loan. Despite this departure, the Parisian club opted not to sign a new right-back. Consequently, Yoram Zague (18 years old) has stepped up as Hakimi’s backup, being the only other player in the squad trained for this position under Luis Enrique.
Hakimi set for a break against Reims?
Having started Achraf Hakimi in every game this season, Luis Enrique hinted during a recent press conference that he wishes to avoid overworking the talented defender. “The French are knocking on wood for luck, right? Achraf’s performance has been top-notch for several years. We are trying to take the best care of our players. Throughout the season, there will be plenty of opportunities to manage these situations,” the PSG coach stated.
Nuno Mendes also to rest this weekend?
According to reports from L’Equipe, corroborated by Le Parisien, Luis Enrique is expected to rest Achraf Hakimi for the upcoming match against Reims this Saturday evening. Additionally, Nuno Mendes is also likely to be given a breather during this fifth round of Ligue 1 action.
