PSG’s Loan Players at Benfica: Injuries Spark Fans’ Frustration

Recently, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has been involved in a series of transactions with Benfica. This summer, the Parisian club secured the signing of Joao Neves for a substantial fee of €70 million. Simultaneously, several PSG players, including Julian Draxler, Juan Bernat, and Renato Sanches, made their way to Lisbon on loan. However, injuries to these players have sparked frustration among Benfica fans, prompting a response from Luis Campos, PSG’s football advisor.

Are Injuries a Curse for PSG’s Loaned Players at Benfica?

The situation raises the question: is there a curse surrounding players loaned by PSG to Benfica? This summer, Renato Sanches rejoined the Lisbon club, following in the footsteps of Juan Bernat and Julian Draxler from previous seasons. All three players share a common thread: they have suffered injuries while playing for Benfica. These physical setbacks have understandably caused frustration among the Portuguese fans.

“These Things Happen”

During the Thinking Football Summit, Luis Campos addressed the spate of injuries affecting PSG’s loaned players at Benfica. Quoted by O Jogo, Campos remarked: “I understand, as it is a real fact. It has happened; these things happen.”

“No One Expected Draxler to Get Injured”

Campos further elaborated, saying, “None of us thought Bernat would be injured. No one imagined Draxler would get hurt. Now it’s Renato… but we will overcome it all.”
