PSG’s Ligue 1 Dominance Overshadowed by Champions League Struggles
Paris Saint-Germain showcased their prowess with a decisive win over Angers in the 11th round of Ligue 1 on Saturday, finishing 4-2. The triumph was spearheaded by an outstanding performance from Bradley Barcola, who netted a hat-trick, and Kang-in Lee, who scored twice. Despite late goals from Angers’ Esteban Lepaul and Emmanuel Biumla, PSG clinched a fourth consecutive victory in the league. This winning streak underscores the Parisians’ dominance, extending their lead by six points over their nearest challenger, Olympique de Marseille, as highlighted by football analyst Bixente Lizarazu.
“In the first half, Angers seemed to play a mere exhibition match, allowing PSG to dominate without challenge. PSG boasts too much talent in Ligue 1, and there isn’t sufficient competition to truly test them,” remarked the former Bayern and Marseille player.
European challenges for PSG
The former French left-back also emphasized the stark contrast between PSG’s league performances and their Champions League struggles. In Europe’s premier competition, PSG has struggled to make an impact, securing only one win against Girona (1-0), before suffering defeats against Arsenal (0-2) and Atlético Madrid (1-2), and drawing with PSV Eindhoven (1-1).
“When they face the Champions League, they encounter teams that are far more experienced and aggressive, and it’s a completely different scene for PSG. In the Champions League, they appear as a young, inexperienced team, despite having a top 5 budget in Europe. This is a significant oversight,” he concluded.
