PSG’s Doué Impresses Despite Controversial Tactics by Luis Enrique
This Saturday evening, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) faced off against Stade de Reims in a match that posed significant challenges for coach Luis Enrique due to multiple player injuries. As a result, he opted to start the highly touted newcomer, Désiré Doué, in a role akin to a “false nine.” This decision, however, did not sit well with former footballer Bixente Lizarazu.
Having already lost Gonçalo Ramos, Enrique’s woes were compounded by the absence of Marco Asensio, who sustained an injury during a Champions League clash against Gérone. Facing Reims, the PSG manager had to make do with limited options. Doué, making his first start since joining the Parisian side, took on this challenging position.
Luis Enrique praises Désiré Doué’s performance
Although Désiré Doué did not score, his performance was enough to impress his coach. “For me, he played well; he is adapting to our team’s style and is a very talented player. He is also very young and eager, and I am very pleased with Désiré Doué,” remarked Luis Enrique.
Lizarazu expresses concerns over tactical choices
Nonetheless, the tactical decision to deploy Désiré Doué in this role was met with skepticism from Bixente Lizarazu. On the Téléfoot program this Sunday, the 1998 World Cup champion stated, “Luis Enrique likes to interchange players and put them in various positions, especially his forwards. Personally, I don’t agree with this approach; I don’t like the idea of a team without a central striker. I find it more effective to have a dedicated forward. Given the injuries at PSG, Luis Enrique has had to adapt.”
