PSG’s Disappointing Defeat to AS Monaco: A Missed Opportunity in Ligue 1

At Louis II Stadium, PSG suffers a disappointing defeat against AS Monaco. This marks their second loss of the season in Ligue 1, putting their position as league leaders at risk should Marseille secure a victory later tonight against Toulouse FC (21:05).

It wasn’t until the second half that the match came alive, starting with a goal from Monaco’s Takumi Minamino in the 68th minute. A red card was issued to Thilo Kehrer shortly after (80th minute). Despite being down to ten men, Sébastien Pocognoli’s squad showed incredible resilience, achieving a vital victory after three matches without a win.

Player Ratings: PSG vs AS Monaco

1. L. Chevalier – 6/10

It was nearly miraculous that Lucas Chevalier completed the match after a huge tackle from Lamine Camara in the 12th minute. After that scare, the Parisian goalkeeper made an exceptional save against Minamino (29th minute) and was later saved by his left post (33rd minute).

Untroubled until the second half, Chevalier could do nothing about Minamino’s goal (68th minute), but he did manage to catch a shot from Teze (73rd minute). Despite the poor result, Chevalier continues to adapt well in Ligue 1 following his solid performance against Le Havre last week.

2. W. Zaïre-Emery – 5/10

A solid performance from Warren Zaïre-Emery at right-back, although it was from his side that Minamino scored (68th minute). However, the young Parisian talent is not to blame for the goal, which does not detract from his otherwise commendable performance.

3. Marquinhos – 4/10

Marquinhos

Marquinhos may have been faster to close down Minamino to prevent the opening goal (68th minute). Until that moment, the Brazilian remained composed, effectively managing Monaco’s attacks. However, this brief hesitation proved costly.

4. W. Pacho – 5/10

As usual, Willian Pacho was solid at the back, attempting to support Marquinhos during Minamino’s goal (68th minute). However, his solidity was not enough to prevent the team’s disappointing outcome.

5. L. Hernandez – 6/10

After a challenging first half-hour, Lucas Hernandez found his rhythm. He made crucial tackles and won duels, notably a significant recovery against Balogun (45th minute).

Hernandez maintained this positive momentum in the second half, contributing defensively right up to the end, including a vital recovery against Akliouche (90 + 5th minute). Following his avoidable expulsion against Tottenham in the Champions League, Hernandez has shown that he can still be the reliable backup sought for Nuno Mendes.

6. Vitinha – 4/10

After a sensational performance against Tottenham in the Champions League on Wednesday, Vitinha struggled this evening. He had a shot on target that was saved rather awkwardly by Hradecky (26th minute), and that was about it in terms of offensive contribution. As usual, he touched the ball frequently but failed to provide the decisive passes.

7. J. Neves – 3/10

The Portuguese gem, like his midfield teammates, was not present enough in the midfield battle. There was little to remember from Joao Neves’ performance, as he had previously set higher standards in recent weeks.

8. F. Ruiz – 3/10

Fabian Ruiz

A series of turnovers put his team in jeopardy, and he struggled with his game: Fabian Ruiz had a disappointing first half at Louis II. The Spaniard improved slightly in the second half, showing more discipline and influence in play. However, it was still far from enough to earn a better rating this afternoon.

Substituted in the 83rd minute for G. Ramos.

9. K-I. Lee – 4/10

Lee Kang-In

Kang-In Lee earned his spot in the starting eleven, but did not fully capitalize on it this afternoon at Louis II. Occasionally showing his talent in tight spaces, the Korean was often too quiet, failing to create danger for Hradecky’s goal, whether playing on the right wing or switching to the center of the pitch with Mayulu.

Substituted in the 65th minute for O. Dembélé.

10. S. Mayulu – 3/10

Senny Mayulu had too many turnovers early in the match, forcing him to be repositioned to the right wing after about fifteen minutes. He was significantly less involved afterward.

Improving after the break, Mayulu was more dangerous and made better decisions, contributing to defensive recoveries, including against Vanderson (58th minute). Nevertheless, it was not enough to salvage his match.

Substituted in the 65th minute for Q. Ndantou.

11. K. Kvaratskhelia – 4/10

Kvaratskhelia created the first dangerous opportunity for Paris (25th minute) and had a nice curled shot that forced Hradecky’s intervention (35th minute). However, he then failed to capitalize on a great assist from Mayulu (55th minute).

Not impactful in the final third, Kvaratskhelia once again underperformed in Ligue 1, in a match where he should have shined and led the Parisian attack.

Substituted in the 76th minute for I. Mbaye, shortly after Kehrer’s expulsion (80th minute).
