PSG’s Chevalier Escapes Injury After Controversial VAR Decision in Monaco Defeat
Controversy in Ligue 1: Refereeing Blunder Acknowledged After PSG’s Defeat to Monaco
Paris Saint-Germain faced an unexpected defeat in their second match of the season against Monaco, losing 1-0 in the 14th round of Ligue 1 on Saturday. The match was notably impacted by a controversial incident involving a harsh tackle by Lamine Camara on Lucas Chevalier just 12 minutes into the game.
Refereeing decision under scrutiny
In a surprising turn of events, referee Clément Turpin issued only a yellow card to the Senegalese international, despite the severity of the tackle. Astonishingly, the referee chose not to consult the VAR for a closer look at the incident.
Following the match, the head of refereeing, Antony Gautier, admitted that a red card should have been shown to the Monaco player, as reported by a prominent sports publication. This admission came during a video conference meeting between referees and professional club representatives on Monday.
Lucas Chevalier grateful for his safety
Lucas Chevalier, the goalkeeper for the capital club, expressed his relief after the game, stating, “I believe my career could have taken a different turn today, and I was very fortunate.” Fortunately for Chevalier and his team, his injury was not severe. The former Lille player is expected to be fit for the upcoming match against Stade Rennais at Parc des Princes in the 15th round of the championship, with only a swollen ankle to show for the incident.
