PSG vs OM: Mamadou Sakho Claims Rivalry Has Lost Its Edge

Since the Qatari takeover, the competitive landscape between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Olympique de Marseille (OM) has shifted dramatically, leading to a noticeable gap in performance and diminishing rivalry. Mamadou Sakho has even remarked that the traditional Classico has become rather “cute”.

The recent signing of Adrien Rabiot at OM has reignited discussions about the historic rivalry with Paris. There was a time when Classicos were fiercely contested, but that intensity has faded, largely due to PSG’s dominance over the years. According to Mamadou Sakho, the significance of the match between these two rivals has considerably waned.

“I feel the match is played differently now”

Mamadou Sakho expressed his sentiments in the program J-1 on Canal+ Sport Afrique, stating, “This rivalry, I feel it less and less. In our time, a PSG-Marseille was something else. Now, I get the impression that the match is played differently.”

“Today, the Classico is cute”

He further elaborated, saying, “In the past, there was tension leading up to the match, a certain spice. Today, the Classico is cute.” This comment is unlikely to sit well with Marseille fans, who will be eager for revenge in the upcoming Classico, which is anticipated to be electrifying and could potentially rekindle excitement in the rivalry between the two clubs.
