PSG Reinvents Offense Post-Mbappé with Diverse Scoring Attack
Without the star power of Kylian Mbappé, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has embarked on a journey of offensive reinvention. As head coach Luis Enrique stated back in August, the legacy of the club’s all-time leading scorer will be carried forward through a stronger team dynamic and a more equitable distribution of goals. So far, the club from the French capital has kicked off the season impressively, showcasing a variety of goal scorers.
Reassessing Offensive Strategies
The departure of Kylian Mbappé raised significant questions for PSG: How can they replace a player who typically nets around fifty goals a season? While last season offered some insights into this dilemma, Luis Enrique is now fully committed to a collective approach.
“A World of Incredible Possibilities Awaits”
“We need to change things compared to last season,” warned Luis Enrique in August. “In the past, everyone would look for the same player when heading toward the goal because Kylian had a unique ability to score. Now, we have a multitude of incredible options available, and we need to leverage that variety. I’ve experienced this situation in other clubs and with the Spanish national team. It’s thrilling to consider how we can enhance the team with this new dynamic. If someone scores 40 goals, we certainly won’t close the door on them, but from my experience, it’s more beneficial to have four players each contributing 12 goals. That totals 48 goals, which is better than 40.”
Diverse Scoring Talent in Paris
Coach Luis Enrique has laid out a clear strategy: focus on teamwork and ensure a more balanced goal distribution. So far, PSG has effectively embraced this philosophy, featuring no fewer than eight different scorers among the thirteen goals registered in their first three matches (Lee, Dembélé, Barcola, Kolo Muani, Asensio, Hakimi, Zaïre-Emery, and Vitinha). Notably, the PSG team also had eight different goal scorers in their first three matches during the 2021-2022 season. The pressing question remains whether this consistency and variety can be maintained throughout the season.
