PSG Missed Out on Kimmich as He Becomes Germany’s New Captain
This summer, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) kept a keen eye on Joshua Kimmich’s situation at Bayern Munich. The talented midfielder, known for his remarkable skills, appeared uninterested in a move to the French capital. Nevertheless, in an exciting turn of events, the 29-year-old has been appointed as the captain of the German national team.
PSG made significant efforts to bolster their midfield this summer, investing €70 million in João Neves and €60 million in Désiré Doué. However, they had several other potential targets in mind, one of which included the highly sought-after Kimmich.
The missed opportunity for PSG with Joshua Kimmich
The German midfielder was on the verge of departing Bayern Munich during the transfer window. With only one year left on his contract, PSG was eager to secure the international star, but Kimmich ultimately opted to remain in Bavaria. This decision was a setback for Paris, but Kimmich now seems content with his situation as he prepares to take on a larger role with his national team. Having become a vital player for Julian Nagelsmann at the start of his tenure, Kimmich has now been elevated to the captaincy of the Mannschaft, which has seen the retirement of legendary goalkeeper Manuel Neuer from international duty.
New leadership for Germany: Kimmich at the helm
Julian Nagelsmann revealed the news during a press conference: “The new captains are Joshua first, followed by Antonio Rüdiger and Kai Havertz as deputies. Kimmich is a player with a clear opinion, which may not always align with mine, and he isn’t afraid to express it to the coach. He serves as a role model for the entire group, always giving his all and pushing himself in training, sometimes to the point of exhaustion. He is driven and always wants to win.”
