PSG Faces Legal Battle Over €55M Claim from Kylian Mbappé

After spending seven successful years together, Kylian Mbappé and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are now at odds. The former PSG star, now with Real Madrid, is demanding €55 million from his old club for unpaid salaries and bonuses. To pursue this claim, he has turned to the legal commission of the French Professional Football League (LFP), which delivered a ruling this Thursday, ordering PSG to pay the specified amount. The question remains: will PSG comply with Mbappé’s demands, despite their apparent reluctance?

Mbappé scores a legal victory against PSG

Believing that Kylian Mbappé had given his word to assist PSG financially following his free transfer to Real Madrid, the Parisian club finds itself in a precarious position. The French national team captain is now seeking €55 million, representing unpaid wages and bonuses. To recover this sum, Mbappé has initiated proceedings with the LFP’s legal commission. The hearing took place on Wednesday, September 11, and although mediation was initially suggested, the legal commission delivered its verdict the following day.

In a surprising turn of events, the LFP’s legal commission ruled in favor of Kylian Mbappé, mandating PSG to pay the €55 million owed to the Real Madrid player. The commission stated: “Paris Saint-Germain must pay the owed salary elements to Kylian Mbappé Lottin within eight days, including the salaries and ethical bonuses for April, May, and June 2024, as well as the signing bonus due on February 29, 2024.

However, PSG is not prepared to accept this outcome. Following the LFP’s decision, the club announced to AFP that it does not intend to comply: “We will not pay.” In its statement, PSG clarified: “In light of the limitations of the LFP’s legal commission regarding its ability to make a comprehensive ruling on this matter, it must now be taken to another jurisdiction.” As explained by Mbappé’s former employer, if he wishes to recover his €55 million, he will need to escalate the matter to the labor court. Delphine Verheyden, Mbappé’s attorney, remarked on Wednesday evening: “We would only consider approaching the labor and criminal courts as a last resort if the player’s rights are not recognized by his league.
