PSG Faces Controversial Sanction Over Administrative Error, Losing Nine Points
The administrative side of football, though often overlooked, is crucial for the effective functioning and overall success of a club. In the case of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), it appears that mismanagement in this area has led to significant sporting repercussions.
This summer, the Franco-Canadian player Florianne Jourde was signed by PSG and has since participated in 10 matches—seven in the league and three in the Champions League. While this may seem ordinary, her presence has indirectly resulted in a loss of nine points for the team. According to reports, the French Football Federation (FFF) has imposed a penalty of three match forfeits on the capital club.
The reason behind this sanction? A missing international transfer certificate was required due to her prior club in Canada before joining the Arkema D1 Féminine. Although her situation has since been rectified, it was not in order initially.
Controversy in the Capital
PSG quickly condemned the decision, stating in a release: “The club contests the completely disproportionate nature of this sanction. The team is being severely punished on the sporting front for a mere administrative issue that has been effortlessly resolved by FIFA: this is a clear injustice.” The club is preparing to appeal the decision, hoping for a favorable outcome.
For now, this controversy represents a seismic shift in French women’s football, as PSG could potentially drop to fifth place in the league standings.
