PSG Faces Chelsea in Champions League; Major Summer Transfers Expected
As the current leaders of Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain has drawn Chelsea for their Champions League Round of 16 match. A challenging encounter awaits the Parisians. However, the capital club is not as confident as last season. To address this, significant changes within the PSG squad could occur during the upcoming transfer window.
PSG sits comfortably at the top of Ligue 1, but Luis Enrique’s team has shown signs of vulnerability lately. Their recent match against Monaco highlighted this, as they struggled despite facing a team that received two red cards. Fabrice Hawkins, a journalist from RMC Sport known for his insights into the Parisian club, suggests that a major overhaul could be on the horizon. “I believe there will be a significant transfer window for Paris Saint-Germain next summer. I expect high-level players to arrive,” he stated.

I can’t guarantee that Mayulu, Barcola, or Dembélé will extend their contracts. This will surely lead to a game of musical chairs…” pic.twitter.com/fku1pqXlJT

Injury Woes Plaguing PSG
PSG’s margin for error in the league has diminished compared to last year, largely due to a higher frequency of injuries. Almost all key players have faced injury challenges this season, including Ousmane Dembélé, who has been struggling with fitness issues. The 2025 Ballon d’Or winner appears to still be finding his rhythm as the knockout stages of the Champions League approach.
According to Hawkins, PSG remains active in the transfer market. “I can’t guarantee that Mayulu, Barcola, or Dembélé will extend their contracts. This will certainly lead to a reshuffling with significant arrivals,” he noted. Fans will have to wait until next summer to see how the situation unfolds.
