PSG Eyes Nico Williams as Potential Mbappé Replacement in 2025
This summer, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) sought to find a successor for Kylian Mbappé, but their efforts fell short. As the next transfer window approaches, the club is likely to intensify its search for a new forward. One of the top targets is Nico Williams, although PSG will face stiff competition from FC Barcelona.
Currently, PSG is thriving on the pitch. After three matches in the league, the Parisians sit at the top of Ligue 1 with three victories. Despite the absence of Kylian Mbappé, the team has been impressive offensively, netting 13 goals while conceding only two.
PSG’s Quest for a Kylian Mbappé Replacement
With the departure of their star player, Kylian Mbappé, PSG attempted to fill the gap this summer. Sporting director Luis Campos explored several options, but ultimately the search was unsuccessful. According to reports, PSG’s top priority was Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but Napoli refused to sell the Georgian talent during the transfer window.
Barcelona’s Interest in Nico Williams
In addition to Kvaratskhelia, PSG had its sights set on Nico Williams this summer. The Parisian club may renew its interest in him in 2025, but they will likely contend with FC Barcelona, who remains keen on the young forward. Journalist Matteo Moretto shared insights, stating, “The Nico Williams saga could resurface as Barcelona continues to monitor him. The lack of agreement was due to both financial constraints and personal reasons. Williams chose to stay, as he expressed excitement about representing Athletic Club in Europe. These factors contributed to his decision to remain.”
