PSG Exits Coupe de France Early; Luis Enrique Stays Optimistic Despite Loss
Paris Saint-Germain exits French Cup after shock defeat to Paris FC
On Monday, PSG, the reigning champions, faced an unexpected defeat in the Round of 32 of the French Cup against their city rivals Paris FC, losing 0-1. Despite playing at home and dominating the match, PSG struggled to finish their chances, while Paris FC capitalized on an opportunity with a goal from Jonathan Ikoné to advance to the next round.
This early exit has been a source of frustration for the team, marking the first time in twelve years that PSG has been eliminated at this stage. Some players were visibly upset at the final whistle. In contrast, PSG’s coach, Luis Enrique, adopted a more philosophical approach, accepting the loss with grace.
Enrique’s perspective on the defeat
“I never discuss the game with the players immediately after it ends. Whether we win or lose, it’s not the right time for analysis. However, it’s quite straightforward: we created numerous chances and deserved to win. But in football, you need to score goals to win. That didn’t happen, and we must come to terms with this defeat,” Enrique explained in an interview.
He continued, “We had 25 shots and dominated from start to finish. We did everything possible to secure a victory. I’m pleased with what I witnessed. I wish Paris FC the best, but it’s clear we deserved to win.”
