PSG Dominates Ligue 1 Budgets: A Look at Financial Hierarchies in 2026-2027
Paris, France – September 2026: The 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season is in full swing, and the financial standings of the 18 clubs have been unveiled, showing significant disparities. As broadcast rights decline, many clubs face financial challenges and uncertainty.
PSG dominates with a hefty budget
The financial prowess of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is unmatched, boasting a budget of €900 million. This puts the Parisian club at the forefront, with resources exceeding the combined budgets of the last 13 clubs, including notable names like Lyon, Lille, Lens, and Strasbourg. PSG’s budget accounts for nearly 40% of the league’s total financial resources.
Other top spenders
Following PSG, the financial hierarchy features Olympique de Marseille with a budget of €185 million, alongside both Stade Rennais and Paris FC with €130 million each. However, it’s noteworthy that clubs such as OM, OL, and AS Monaco are under financial scrutiny by regulatory bodies, which has impacted their ability to secure new players this summer.
Le Mans’ modest financial return
At the other end of the spectrum, Le Mans returns to top-flight football with a budget of just €25 million, a stark contrast to PSG, and equivalent to 1/36th of their budget. Despite financial constraints, Le Mans has started the season strongly, currently sitting at 9th place. Other clubs with smaller budgets include Le Havre (€28 million) and Angers (€30 million), rounding off the league’s smallest financial players.
