PSG Celebrates Five Trophies and Bids Farewell to Gianluigi Donnarumma
Last night, following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Angers, Paris Saint-Germain shared a heartfelt moment with their fans, celebrating five recent trophies and paying tribute to Gianluigi Donnarumma.
A Memorable Celebration at Parc des Princes
What was initially an unplanned event turned into a memorable occasion. PSG had requested supporters at Parc des Princes to remain in their seats after the final whistle to celebrate the club’s impressive haul of five trophies in recent months, including the Champions League, Ligue 1, Supercup, Trophée des Champions, and Coupe de France. However, the spotlight quickly shifted to the farewell of Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Donnarumma’s Emotional Farewell
Although Donnarumma was not selected by coach Luis Enrique for the match against Angers, he was present at Parc des Princes and witnessed Lucas Chevalier’s calm home debut against SCO. After the match, the Italian goalkeeper received a special moment of recognition. Flanked by teammates Marquinhos and Achraf Hakimi, Donnarumma faced the Auteuil stand, which erupted in chants of his name. The PSG squad and staff allowed him to soak in the moment before joining him on the field. “I understand this is a special moment for Gigio. It’s always beautiful to see the support from the fans,” Enrique remarked in the post-match press conference. “It’s tough to manage, but it’s wonderful to witness this feeling of trust and appreciation,” he continued.
Zaïre-Emery Pays Tribute
After acknowledging the Auteuil stand, Donnarumma made a final tour around Parc des Princes to bid farewell to each section of the stadium. Notably, 500 Ultras were positioned in Boulogne, reminiscent of the previous season’s ending. Accompanied by team captain Marquinhos, the soon-to-be former Parisian even took a piece of turf from the pitch as a keepsake.
“He’s a fantastic goalkeeper, and the person is perfect. We just have to thank him. If he stays, it will be with great pleasure. And if he leaves, we will thank him from the bottom of our hearts,” said Warren Zaïre-Emery in the mixed zone, honoring his teammate. The goalkeeper, who had shared a farewell letter just before the Supercup, simply posted “Thank you, Paris” on his social media platforms yesterday.
