Challenging competition in Ligue 1

This season, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) faces intense competition in Ligue 1. Alongside Olympique de Marseille, RC Lens has emerged as a significant contender in the title race.

In the 14th round, RC Lens capitalized on PSG’s stumble against Monaco (0-1) and Marseille’s draw with Toulouse (2-2). A win against Angers (2-1), thanks to Florian Thauvin’s crucial performance, propelled Lens to the top of the standings.

PSG’s determination to reclaim the top spot

With PSG now in second place, trailing Lens by a single point, the Parisians, led by Vitinha, are dissatisfied with their current position. Despite the setback, the team’s performance remains strong, even as they navigate the physical demands of the 2024-25 season, which necessitates continuous player rotation under coach Luis Enrique.

“We’ve had a solid start to the season. Of course, being second isn’t ideal for us. We aim to be first, as always, but various factors have impacted our start: last season’s intense schedule, limited rest, fatigue, and injuries have prevented us from having a full squad,” Vitinha expressed during the Media Day at PSG Campus.

Looking forward with optimism

The Portuguese midfielder is optimistic about future improvements. “Many factors have influenced our season’s start, but considering our positions in both the Champions League and the league, it’s been a good start. We don’t like being second, and we’re determined to reclaim first place,” Vitinha added. This Saturday, the reigning four-time French champions will host Stade Rennais, aiming to regain the lead in the standings.
