PSG Aims for Collective Strength and Efficiency Ahead of Atlético Madrid Clash
With only four points in the Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain faces a critical match against Atlético Madrid this Wednesday. In a pre-match press conference, coach Luis Enrique addressed his team’s inefficiency.
Paris Saint-Germain finds itself in a challenging position in the Champions League. Ahead of their clash with Atlético Madrid, who are also struggling for points, the capital club has managed just four points from three matches. The Parisians are particularly suffering from a significant lack of finishing ability.
In a pre-match conference on Tuesday, Luis Enrique expressed his satisfaction with his team despite their struggles. “I am very pleased with my team, both defensively and offensively. We just need a bit more realism,” he stated. “Creating goal-scoring opportunities is my top priority. We need to analyze the matches as a whole. We want to rectify situations to convert our chances.”
Team spirit is key for PSG, but efficiency needs improvement
Having narrowly defeated Girona and held to a draw by PSV Eindhoven, the Parisian club is struggling in the final third. However, this doesn’t seem to concern the Red and Blues’ coach, who reiterated his philosophy. “What interests me is always generating goal-scoring opportunities and getting into the penalty area because you have managed to outplay your opponent. My goal as a coach is to always create chances. When will we score more goals? That is another matter. We work hard every week to enhance our efficiency. But what I seek as a coach is to maintain the same statistics as against PSV and Girona.”
This philosophy is accompanied by a guiding principle: team spirit above all. “Every player must contribute to the team; my aim is collective. We analyze everything from a global perspective, and it’s better not to rely on any specific player.” Some might interpret this as a barely concealed jab at a certain Kylian Mbappé.
