PSG Adapts After Mbappé’s Departure, Sets New Home Record
This summer, the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) faced a significant challenge with the departure of Kylian Mbappé, who left for Real Madrid on a free transfer. As a result, the Parisian club has had to reinvent its offensive strategy following the exit of its all-time leading scorer. Notably, PSG has already set a remarkable record with its first home victory of the 2024-2025 season.
The PSG now finds itself without Kylian Mbappé, who became the club’s all-time top scorer in March 2023, surpassing Edinson Cavani. The Bondy native played his final season in the French capital during 2023-2024. After deciding against renewing his contract with PSG to join Real Madrid, many observers quickly pondered how the club could replace an offensive powerhouse capable of netting 50 goals in a season. Luis Enrique has asserted that the answer lies in collective effort.
Shifting the Focus of the Attack
“Changes are necessary compared to last season. Previously, whenever we approached the goal, we all aimed for the same player because Kylian had this incredible knack for scoring. Now, we have a whole array of incredible options available, and we need to take advantage of that. I’ve experienced similar situations at other clubs and with the Spanish national team. For me, it’s exhilarating to see how we can enhance the team with this new dynamic,” the PSG coach expressed last August.
PSG Matches Historic Record
So far, Luis Enrique has successfully navigated this transition. The PSG has scored an impressive thirteen goals in just three league matches. They marked a strong start at the Parc des Princes by demolishing Montpellier 6-0. This victory is the largest home opening win in the club’s history, matching the record set on August 22, 1975, when they also scored six goals.
