Osimhen’s Transfer Woes: From Napoli to Galatasaray, Not PSG
Victor Osimhen, previously sidelined by Napoli and omitted from their Serie A roster, has secured a loan move to Galatasaray. While this transfer provides him an opportunity to showcase his talents, the Nigerian forward initially had his sights set on a move to Paris Saint-Germain, which was reportedly not aligned with his aspirations during the recent transfer window.
The anticipated PSG move
With Kylian Mbappé departing, many expected PSG to target major attacking reinforcements. Osimhen, who was on their radar last year and had a close relationship with Luis Campos, seemed like a prime candidate. However, as reported, the Nigerian striker was not prioritized during the recent transfer negotiations.
“A missed opportunity for everyone involved”
Now on loan at Galatasaray, Osimhen has found a club where he can make an impact this season, especially after the untenable situation at Napoli. According to Francesco Modugno on Radio Marte, “What happened with Osimhen was that everyone missed a golden opportunity. Everyone wanted to make a significant deal, from De Laurentiis to Victor himself. Some teams aimed to capitalize on a complicated and desperate situation.”
“He desired PSG but was open to Chelsea”
Modugno elaborated, stating, “For Napoli, maintaining his salary was nearly impossible with two years left on his contract. A beautiful opportunity was missed.” The Sky Sport Italia journalist further revealed that Osimhen was keen on continuing his career at PSG. “The player would have accepted a move to Saudi Arabia, even if it wasn’t his preferred destination. He wanted PSG, and he would have considered Chelsea as well, but not at a lower salary than he currently earns.”
