Osimhen’s Chelsea Move Falls Through: Details from Obi Mikel
In a summer full of transfer speculation, Victor Osimhen was on the radar of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) but ultimately did not make the move to the French capital. As the summer transfer window came to a close, the Nigerian striker aimed for a switch to Chelsea, but complications arose that prevented the transfer from materializing. Former Chelsea player John Obi Mikel, who was involved in the discussions, shed light on the reasons behind the failed deal.
PSG’s Silent Summer Following Mbappé’s Departure
Despite the exit of Kylian Mbappé, PSG did not actively seek out a forward to replace the prolific goal scorer. This left Victor Osimhen searching for opportunities, as his current club, Napoli, was looking to offload him. Osimhen’s dream was to join Chelsea, inspired by his idol Didier Drogba, but he ultimately found himself signing with Galatasaray instead. Mikel revealed that minor details in the negotiations hampered Osimhen’s aspirations to land in London.
“Challenges That We Simply Could Not Resolve”
In his podcast, The Obi One Podcast, Mikel shared, “I know what Victor wanted, I know what the club offered him, and we reached a compromise. Both parties had to make concessions, but there were just minor issues here and there—paperwork, medical questions, and a few challenges that we simply could not resolve due to time constraints.” Despite the hurdles, both Chelsea and Osimhen were eager to make the move happen.
“Just Some Minor Details We Couldn’t Finalize”
Mikel further elaborated, “Victor really wanted to join the club and made several compromises to reach an agreement. We did come to a consensus regarding salary and what he wanted; it was just a matter of some minor details that we couldn’t finalize. Both parties were genuinely trying to get the deal through, and I commend Chelsea for their ambition and for where they want to take the club moving forward, as well as Victor’s strong desire to be part of it.”
