Marseille, France – September 2026 – The highly anticipated "Le Classique" match between Olympique de Marseille (OM) and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is set for this Sunday at 20:45. Expectations are high for a potentially extraordinary scoreline.
Historical context sets the stage
In their last encounter on February 8 at the Parc des Princes, PSG dominated Marseille with a resounding 5-0 victory. The Parisian team could have easily doubled their goal count, showcasing their overwhelming dominance at the time.
Current form and expectations
As the curtain falls on the fifth round of Ligue 1, the gap between these fierce rivals has never been wider. With PSG’s current form, fans and analysts speculate whether they will replicate or even surpass their previous performance.
Expert predictions
Maxime Chanot shared his thoughts on the upcoming clash, expressing concern for OM. "It’s a special match. I hope they can minimize the damage, but I’m expecting a high score. It looks set to be a very challenging game for the Olympians," he remarked during a segment on RMC’s L’After Foot.
Probable lineups
OM: De Lange – Weah (c), Egan-Riley, Aguerd, Emerson – Højbjerg, Abdelli – Harit, Angel Gomes, Igor Paixão – Gouiri.
PSG: Safonov – Zaïre-Emery, Marquinhos (c), Pacho, Nuno Mendes – João Neves, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz – Dembélé, Ferran Torres, Kvaratskhelia.
Stakes and implications
The key question is not whether OM will secure a result, but if they can avoid a fifth consecutive defeat. Such an outcome would deepen the crisis at Marseille ahead of the international break, potentially leading to significant repercussions for the club.
This classical rivalry promises to deliver an exhilarating experience for football enthusiasts, with many eagerly awaiting the final whistle to see if history will repeat itself or if OM will defy the odds.
