OM Aims to Challenge PSG in Ambitious 2024-2025 Season

Following an ambitious summer highlighted by the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi, Olympique de Marseille (OM) aims to make a significant impact in the ongoing football season. After a strong start to the 2024-2025 campaign, which includes two victories and a draw, left-back Quentin Merlin has voiced the team’s aspirations, expressing a desire to challenge Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in Ligue 1.

Can Marseille Compete This Season?

The Ligue 1 season has kicked off with a bang. PSG has made an impressive start, claiming three wins from three matches and currently sitting atop the French league standings. However, OM, now under the guidance of Roberto De Zerbi and facing a season without European competition, has also made a promising beginning.

With victories over Brest (1-5) and Toulouse (1-3), alongside a draw against Reims (2-2), OM sits with seven points, setting the stage for a competitive season against PSG. Merlin has made it clear that he intends to challenge the capital club this year.

“They Are Not Invincible”

“We have the goal of going as far as possible, with ambitions for a Champions League spot. If we can push PSG, we will. They are not invincible, although they are a strong team. We believe we can pose problems for them and compete, but we must remain humble. It’s up to us to perform, to continue achieving results, and maintain consistency,” remarked the OM left-back during a press conference with the French U21 team.
