Nico Williams Stays at Athletic Bilbao Despite PSG and Barça Interest

In a bid to bolster their offensive lineup following Kylian Mbappé’s departure to Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has been linked with a move for Nico Williams. The young Spanish international is also on the radar of FC Barcelona. However, according to his agent, Williams has no plans to leave Athletic Bilbao.

The 22-year-old winger had a stellar performance during Euro 2024, helping lead Spain to victory. Despite interest from top clubs like PSG and Barcelona, Williams opted to remain with Athletic Bilbao, where he is contracted until June 2027.

“He wanted to stay”

“The boy has decided to continue for another year. We are here to work, support him in all his decisions, and advise him. He wanted to stay,” shared Nico Williams’ agent, Félix Tainta, in an interview with Cadena SER.

“When a player wants to stay at a club, he stays”

Tainta emphasized Williams’ commitment to Athletic Bilbao: “He is proof that when a player wants to stay at a club, he stays, and when he wants to leave, he leaves. It’s not the agent putting a gun to his head saying, ‘I want you to go where I want.’”
