Nico Williams: Hot Prospect for PSG Amidst Summer Transfer Buzz
This summer, the future of Nico Williams was a hot topic in the transfer market. The talented forward, who had just concluded a stellar European Championship, was expected to leave. However, he ultimately remained with Athletic Bilbao. That said, the prospect of a significant transfer looms next summer. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), who expressed interest in the player valued at €60 million during the summer, will face stiff competition from several top clubs looking to secure the Spanish international.
PSG’s search for a forward amid Mbappé’s departure
With Kylian Mbappé leaving, many experts believed that PSG would seek to recruit a marquee forward this summer. A host of players were linked with the Parisian club, including Victor Osimhen, Nico Williams, Jadon Sancho, and Viktor Gyökeres. Ultimately, Luis Campos made no significant signings, apart from the rising star from Stade Rennais, Désiré Doué.
Competition heats up for Nico Williams
Looking ahead to next summer, PSG is likely to renew their efforts to acquire a high-profile forward. If they pursue Nico Williams, they will contend with several other clubs showing interest. According to journalist Matteo Moretto, who spoke to CaughtOffside, Arsenal, Chelsea, and notably FC Barcelona have all expressed interest recently. Moretto remarked, “I still believe Barcelona will be an option next summer. This summer, Chelsea inquired but didn’t proceed due to salary demands. Other reports mentioned an offer from Aston Villa, but I have no confirmation on that. Arsenal also showed interest but did not act.” The recent European champion has a buyout clause of around €60 million.
Bradley Barcola shines for PSG
The absence of a marquee signing has allowed Bradley Barcola to emerge as a key player for PSG. The French winger has cemented his place as a regular starter, scoring impressively since the season began. In just three league matches, he has already netted four goals. Furthermore, Barcola was one of the few bright spots for the French national team in their recent UEFA Nations League match against Italy, where he scored just 13 seconds into the game. Unfortunately, the match ended in a 3-1 defeat for France.
