Neymar Jr. May Return to Europe: Fenerbahçe Offers Contract Amid Injury Concerns
Neymar Jr could be making a return to Europe following his departure in August 2023, with a club reportedly interested in securing his services.
The situation is challenging, as statistics reveal the truth. Since September 2023, Neymar Jr has only participated in 19 matches for his current team. The iconic former FC Barcelona star left Paris Saint-Germain after six consecutive seasons to join Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. He later returned to Brazil, signing with São Paulo to reconnect with his roots.
More frequently seen at non-sporting events than on the pitch, the 33-year-old player has faced numerous injuries, causing him to miss many games. Nevertheless, interest from clubs remains high, with Turkish side Fenerbahçe now entering the fray. According to the sports newspaper Fanatik, the Turkish club has made an official offer.
World Cup 2026 in sight
The primary goal for Neymar is the 2026 World Cup, and he aims to arrive in peak condition for the tournament. Notably, his contract includes a clause that allows him to sign with a European club for free this summer. His current deal with the Brazilian club expires at the end of June 2025. The Turkish vice-champions have proposed a contract lasting a year and a half to Neymar Jr.
The father of the Brazilian international, who has earned 128 caps for his country, shared with Mundo Deportivo, “We want him to stay. We are doing everything possible to make that happen. We have received offers from other clubs, but we have turned them down because we want him to have more time to recover from his injuries. The next six months will be crucial“. This announcement is significant for the future of his son’s career and near-term prospects.
