Reflecting on Messi’s turbulent time in Paris, Leonardo shared with RMC Sport: “Messi initially wanted to remain at Barcelona. But once it became clear that staying wasn’t an option, PSG became his top choice. Despite this, numerous misunderstandings arose. It was a tough period for him, having to relocate after 20 years in one place. Saying he was unhappy is an oversimplification. The Champions League elimination by Real Madrid in 2021-2022 added to the complexity.”
