Mbappé Rejects Saudi Move Despite PSG’s Willingness to Sell

In the summer of 2023, Kylian Mbappé’s refusal to extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) led the club to make a bold move: placing him among the team’s unwanted players. Fans anticipated his departure, yet he remained with the club. There were even rumors of a potential transfer to Saudi Arabia, a prospect that PSG confirmed was on the table.

Following the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo, many footballing stars have been lured by the allure of the Saudi league. Notable names such as Karim Benzema, Neymar, and Riyad Mahrez have made the switch, while others, like Lionel Messi and Mbappé, opted to stay put. Despite being sidelined by PSG last summer, the French forward turned down the Saudi opportunity, even as the club appeared willing to facilitate the move.

A serious offer from Saudi Arabia

Inside PSG, there was a readiness to sell Kylian Mbappé to a Saudi club. According to sources within the club, as reported by L’Equipe, “After 2022, the only serious offer came from Saudi Arabia and was accepted by the club.”

Interest from Saudi league officials

Several months ago, Michael Emenalo, director of the Saudi league, discussed the potential for Mbappé’s move: “I cannot emphasize enough how in-depth the conversation was. There was interest; if the player was willing to come, a club was ready to welcome him.”
