Mbappé Leaves PSG for Free After Failed Liverpool Transfer Attempt
In a surprising turn of events this summer, Kylian Mbappé has departed from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to join Real Madrid without any transfer fee. The French superstar, who was initially signed for €180 million in 2017, has completed his contract with the Paris club, leaving executives with a sense of disappointment as they missed out on a financial return from his departure. Prior to this, there were attempts by PSG to sell Mbappé to Liverpool for a staggering €400 million.
Liverpool’s Significant Offer for Mbappé
This summer’s free transfer of Kylian Mbappé from PSG could have taken a different path. Back in the summer of 2022, the World Cup champion expressed his desire to leave Paris. According to reports, PSG received two notable offers for the star player during that period. One came from Real Madrid, which PSG dismissed outright, while another significant offer was made by Liverpool, who proposed €200 million for the Frenchman.
PSG’s High Demands for Liverpool
The offer from Liverpool was presented to Antero Henrique, who was no longer the sporting director at PSG but was involved in negotiations with the Mbappé camp. In response to Liverpool’s €200 million proposal, Henrique demanded a staggering €400 million, effectively closing the door on the possibility of Mbappé’s move to the Premier League side. Meanwhile, the World Cup champion had reached an agreement with the Reds for a short-term contract that would facilitate a future move to Real Madrid, which was his initial desire. Ultimately, it took an additional two years for Kylian Mbappé to achieve his goal and officially sign with the Casa Blanca.
