Marquinhos Remembers First Champions League Match Emotions
As Lucas Beraldo prepared for his first Champions League match against PSG, emotions ran high when the iconic Champions League anthem filled the stadium. Reflecting on these feelings, Marquinhos recalled his own memories, particularly his debut against Olympiakos back in September 2013.
For every player, the Champions League anthem evokes a profound emotional response. For Lucas Beraldo, this sensation was especially intense. During his first European match against the Real Sociedad last February, the Brazilian defender for PSG displayed visible emotion just before kickoff.
“When I see other players getting emotional…”
Present at the match, Marquinhos observed the reaction of his young teammate. “Today, I have more experience, and when I see other players like Lucas Beraldo getting emotional for the first time they hear this music, it takes me back. It’s touching. We need to cherish moments like these. Life goes by so quickly, especially as a footballer. We must never forget where we came from and where our dreams originate. Hearing that music reminds you of everything you’ve gone through to get here,” shared the captain of PSG, as he reminisced about his own first Champions League memory.
Marquinhos recalls his debut
“For me, the Champions League is all about the music… I remember the first time I heard the Champions League anthem while on the pitch; it was incredible. It was against Olympiakos, and it was my first European match wearing the Paris Saint-Germain jersey. I hadn’t anticipated that moment at all, as I had to step in for Alex who was injured at the last minute. I was only 19, and there I was on the field with Thiago Silva. It was truly an unforgettable moment, very special for me,” stated Marquinhos during an interview with the club’s media.
