Lyon Star Alexandre Lacazette Reveals Why He Turned Down PSG Transfer Offer

Ligue 1 Star Once Declined PSG’s Offer

Paris, November 2024: Since Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) took control of Paris Saint-Germain in July 2011, the club has become a dominant force in Ligue 1 and a significant player in European football.

PSG’s dominance in French football

Paris Saint-Germain has consistently clinched national trophies, leaving little opportunity for other teams to claim victory. Many players in the French league are eager to join the Parisian giants.

Not everyone is tempted by PSG

However, not all players jump at the chance. In an interview with Carré, Lyon’s forward Alexandre Lacazette revealed his decision to turn down PSG during Laurent Blanc’s tenure as manager. “I said no to PSG. When Paris approaches, the numbers are enticing, but I had no interest in joining another French club besides Lyon. I wanted to experience a different league,” he confessed.

Lacazette’s journey to Arsenal

Ultimately, Lacazette opted for a move to Arsenal in the summer of 2017. Over five seasons, he made 211 appearances, netting 73 goals and providing 31 assists for the Gunners.

Return to Lyon and current performance

The French striker is now back in Ligue 1 with Olympique Lyonnais. At 33, Lacazette had an impressive 2023-2024 season with 22 goals across all competitions. However, this season has been challenging, with only 2 goals in 12 matches.
