Lucas Chevalier Shines in PSG’s Trophée des Champions Victory Over Marseille

Lucas Chevalier delivered an outstanding performance for Paris Saint-Germain last night during the Trophée des Champions against Olympique de Marseille, leading to a thrilling 2-2 draw and a 4-1 victory in the penalty shootout.

Chevalier, who has faced stiff competition from Matvey Safonov recently, showcased his talent at the Kuwait match, making several crucial saves throughout the game. His standout moments included impressive stops in the 7th, 34th, 56th, and 57th minutes, but it was during the penalty shootout where he truly shined, saving attempts from both O’Riley and Traoré. The 30-year-old goalkeeper seized the opportunity to prove himself at a critical moment.

“I was determined to help the team win”

Reflecting on his performance, Chevalier expressed his confidence going into the penalty shootout, stating, “I knew that if we went to penalties, I would make saves because I was too determined to help the team win this trophy.” He acknowledged that last night marked “his best match since joining Paris,” emphasizing the importance of his contributions: “I was called into action from start to finish, making several important saves, even if not everything was perfect. I made a lot of stops, but being a goalkeeper is about more than just that. There were situations where I could have done better, but I’m working to improve, and today showcased some of my qualities,” he remarked, likely referencing a particular situation leading to a penalty for Marseille.

“I won’t back down, no matter what”

As he continues to earn valuable points while Safonov recovers from a hand fracture, the former Lille player opened up about the challenges he has faced in recent weeks. “I felt a bit destabilized because I’ve never been in this situation before, but I’ve never felt vulnerable,” he admitted, adding, “You journalists are part of this; you haven’t made life easy for me, but that’s part of high-level sports. The demands are at their peak. I know I do some things well and some not so well, but I’m confident in my abilities. I know why I came to PSG, and I won’t give up, no matter what happens.”

Chevalier also recounted the dramatic conclusion of the match, where PSG overturned Marseille’s lead. “The OM bench was celebrating, thinking it was over, but with PSG, it’s never over,” he remarked. “PSG has something special. I had seen their Champions League journey, and now, I’m experiencing it from the inside.” This victory marked Chevalier’s third trophy with PSG, showcasing his growing impact at the club.
