Ligue 1+: New Channel Launches with 600,000 Subscribers and Promising Revenue Projections
Just days after the launch of the new Ligue 1 + channel, Nicolas de Tavernost shared some key figures and financial projections for the season.
Ligue 1 + had a successful debut. Following the end of the contract between DAZN and the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), a new channel has taken over, and its launch weekend proved to be a resounding success. In an interview with L’Equipe, Nicolas de Tavernost announced that “over 600,000 people have already subscribed” across all platforms.
Buoyed by these numbers, the president of LFP Médias expressed optimism about the channel’s revenue in its first year. “We estimate that we will generate approximately €170 million, from which production costs will be deducted. This leaves us with around €120 million, which still represents significant revenue,” he projected during an interview on L’after foot on RMC Sport.
No TV rights for two years
The leader included in these revenues an indemnity of €85 million paid by DAZN and another €78.5 million from beIN Sports. While it’s impossible to make an “exact calculation,” the 18 Ligue 1 clubs could potentially share this amount at the end of the season. However, as Nicolas de Tavernost reminded, the top-tier teams cannot rely on TV rights money for the next two years.
Despite this, the 74-year-old remains optimistic about the future of Ligue 1+. He hopes to quickly reach the milestone of one million subscribers.
