Layvin Kurzawa: Reflecting on a Decade of Unexpected Career Twists

On this day ten years ago, Layvin Kurzawa began his journey with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), a career move that took a much different trajectory than anticipated.

From promising beginnings to unexpected challenges

At just 22, Layvin Kurzawa transferred from AS Monaco to PSG for 23 million euros. The young defender from Fréjus was expected to gradually fill the shoes of Brazilian Maxwell as the club’s primary left-back. Pundits and fans alike foresaw a bright future for him, even predicting a spot as a regular in the French national team.

However, despite playing 154 matches for PSG and earning thirteen caps for France, Kurzawa’s career did not meet these high expectations. Instead, he faced setbacks that led to extended periods away from the pitch.

The Italian opportunity

After a seven-month hiatus from professional football, Layvin Kurzawa joined Boavista in the Portuguese league on February 12, 2025, but only managed to participate in four matches. Following the conclusion of that season, he found himself without a club once more.

Recent reports from journalist Marc Mechenoua suggest a potential lifeline. Serie A club Cagliari has shown interest in Kurzawa, reportedly offering him a one-year contract with an optional extension.
