Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s PSG Move Thwarted by Napoli’s Conte

Once heralded as the ideal successor to Kylian Mbappé at Paris Saint-Germain, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has ultimately decided to remain with Napoli, thanks to the influence of Antonio Conte. The Georgian international was reportedly eager to join the Parisian club and play under the guidance of Luis Enrique, as early reports indicated in July.

With the summer transfer window now closed, PSG is taking stock of its acquisitions, having successfully signed four players to strengthen their squad: Matvey Safonov, Willian Pacho, Joao Neves, and Désiré Doué. However, the club had additional ambitions to bolster its attacking lineup. According to sources, negotiations had been initiated with Napoli for the transfer of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

The player had chosen PSG

The 23-year-old Georgian forward ticked all the boxes for the Parisian hierarchy. Young, effective in front of goal, and with significant room for growth, Kvaratskhelia seemed destined for the French capital. Yet, this potential move faced obstacles from Napoli, particularly from its president Aurelio de Laurentiis and new coach Antonio Conte.

A meeting changed everything

Reports suggest that Kvaratskhelia was indeed drawn to the Paris project. However, everything shifted during the Euro tournament. Aurelio de Laurentiis had discussions with the player’s agent, presenting an enticing offer that was enough to convince the Georgian winger to stay put.
