Lens vs PSG: Controversial Match Rescheduling Sparks Outrage in France
The French Professional Football League (LFP) approved the rescheduling of the Lens-PSG match from April 11 to May 13, causing a stir across France. Prior to this decision, the Sang et Or had already expressed their disapproval through an official statement.
Regional leader’s outcry over scheduling
In response, Xavier Bertrand, president of the Hauts-de-France region, quickly took to social media. He voiced his support for the Lens club, emphasizing the importance of defending a crucial principle: fairness in Ligue 1.
“RC Lens stood firm for fairness”
“Currently in second place in Ligue 1, just one point behind the Parisian leaders, the RC Lens-PSG clash is now the season’s most significant match for both teams. Despite this, the LFP ignored RC Lens’ legitimate sporting concerns: a two-week break followed by three matches in eight days. Lens was right to stand firm. They were upholding not just their interests, but a fundamental principle: sporting fairness,” Bertrand wrote on social media.
“Our championship deserved better. The fans deserved better. Football deserved better,” the former mayor of Saint-Quentin added.
