Guardiola Urges Manchester City to Improve After Key Victory at Bernabeu
Despite a crucial victory at the Bernabeu this Wednesday, Pep Guardiola emphasized that the Citizens must elevate their game if they wish to reach at least the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Manchester City triumphed in the Champions League on Wednesday night, but the performance did not fully meet the expectations set by their coach, Pep Guardiola. After a lackluster first half-hour, the Real Madrid team took the lead through Rodrygo. Although Manchester City managed to turn the game around, this was primarily due to two glaring defensive mistakes from the Madrid side, notably from Thibaut Courtois (35th minute) and Antonio Rudiger (43rd minute).
Guardiola’s Call for Improvement
While satisfied to leave the Bernabeu with three points, Guardiola acknowledged that his team’s current performance level would not suffice for a semi-final appearance in the Champions League: “Of course, I’m happy; I don’t downplay the significance of winning here. I am pleased for the players and proud of their commitment and effort. However, having played in numerous semi-finals and finals, I know we need to improve. This level won’t be enough if we face teams like PSG, and we aim to reach at least the last four.”
