Gianluigi Donnarumma Reflects on PSG Departure, Thanks Club and Fans Despite Frustration

After his summer transfer to Manchester City, Gianluigi Donnarumma has opened up about his exit from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Despite having a contract until 2026, the Italian goalkeeper had hoped to extend his stay in Paris but was unable to reach an agreement with the club. He expressed his disappointment while also expressing gratitude towards the club and its supporters.

Contract Negotiations Fall Through

Gianluigi Donnarumma initially envisioned continuing his journey at PSG. Although his contract was set to run until 2026, discussions for a renewal did not yield positive results. The Parisian club, unwilling to allow him to leave on a free transfer, opted to sign Lucas Chevalier and facilitated Donnarumma’s move. Consequently, the Italian international made his way to Manchester City after being sold by the capital club.

Frustration with PSG’s Management

In an interview with Sky Sport Italia, Donnarumma shared his frustrations regarding the situation. “I was disappointed by PSG because I had adapted well. However, the last few months have been completely different, which was disappointing. I can’t explain it, but it’s something that needs to be accepted. It’s unfortunate, but I have to move on,” he stated.

Gratitude Towards PSG and the Fans

Despite his disappointment, he took the time to thank the Parisian club. “I will always be grateful to PSG for everything it has given me; what I contributed in return was fantastic. I will always thank the supporters. Paris will always be a second home for me,” he remarked.

He concluded his thoughts on an emotional note, saying, “I am proud of what I have achieved, and I will always be thankful for my teammates and the supporters.”
